I have always loved working with things: making machines from old boxes, drawing & coloring. I was inspired by my uncle from Haarlem who was a painter. Art, wow. I kept doing everything in that direction: painting, drawing, sculpting... I just wanted to create. When my aversion to computers was tempered, because a computer turned out to be useful, I discovered Photoshop. But good visual material was difficult to find and, moreover, you always have a copyright. The solution: make your own material. That's how I started with photography, but that quickly became the predominant theme. For a while I loved taking pictures with my SLR camera. I carried it everywhere. Great: shutter speeds, apertures, lenses. Find out everything and make it my own. At one point I even started my own photography business. But the whole business stuff around it killed me. That eventually came at the expense of my sense of photography. Shame. Now, a few years later, I am happy to be working with images again, but with my phone camera. And soon with one that hardly seems to be inferior to my then so fancy and great pride, the EOS 40D with all its possibilities. After all, it's about the person behind the camera and not about all that expensive stuff. My former ideals in that regard only stood in my way. So now I just keep clicking. I don't feel like fussing anymore, but I love making images again. Making something you might not see visible: to photograph beauty that we might otherwise pass by. I have a predilection for images that you may experience as ugly, but which can be intensely beautiful because of that. I want to portray a vulnerable fly so large and close that it almost becomes threatening again, but above all powerful & overwhelmingly beautiful. contact copyright All pictures on this site are copyright protected.
